Making your script sing
I trained at the prestigious Academy of Recorded Arts (ALRA) in London,
achieving a 1st in Acting.
There I honed skills that have become invaluable in my later work like:
how to concisely analyse scripts,
build believable characters,
& look after my body and voice
It also happened to be where I fell in love with voice & voiceover work.
I loved the detail of the microphone, how creative you can be with proximity and breath, and even that spacey feeling you got from a (sometimes slightly musty) soundproofed room!
I've since been fortunate to perform on stages all over the world, from the highlands of Scotland to Hong Kong. I even popped up looking pretty sweaty in a Mike Leigh movie.

To be more specific: Live Musician.
I spent my youth playing various instruments in wind, jazz and rock bands. Teenage Dan wanted to have a go at them all...near enough. And there was a time towards the end of school when I nearly pivoted into Music instead of Acting.
But the music never went away, it's tenacious like that. I always kept practising, playing in bands, eventually discovering that there was such a mysterious thing as an Actor Musician.
Performing with an audience can be incredibly thrilling, it can also be remarkably tender and intimate. What it does need is absolute commitment and assurance, and the wherewithal to take risks. It requires you to leave everything out there on the stage for a room full of strangers. It's also addictive.
Not every voiceover session is the same, it requires that leap of faith to think out of the box and dare to create something really special.
Live music never pays to be safe, and neither does voiceover.
I'm also an award nominated Sound Designer & Composer and award winning Writer.
Writing, designing and composing in the context of a story arc gives me a unique understanding of storytelling, something that feeds symbiotically into all other aspects of my work; including acting and voiceover.
Sound design and music production has really helped me to master music production software like Logic Pro, which has been invaluable when it comes to editing and mastering beautiful sessions for clients just like you!
And what about Voiceover?!
I started dipping my toe into the Voiceover world with Audiobooks, and Audio Dramas with Big Finish. This led to me getting my first agent and my first Video Games with Pitstop Productions; Divinity Original Sin 1 & 2. From there I really got a taste for it, and various bits of commercial and corporate work followed.
As time went on I started to get more serious about the industry and where it sat alongside my other passions (pillars), and the last few years have been some of the most rewarding fo my career. I've been able to approach the industry with more commitment and focus than ever, which has lead to brilliant award winning games like Baldur's Gate 3, and collaborations with big brands like Oreo, Iams and Doritos.
I see the voiceover world as one of unlimited headroom and infinite possibilities. I'm hungry and truly excited for what's next.
